LOCATION:
Groote Eylandt is the largest island situated in the Gulf of Carpentaria, 630km from Darwin by air.
The island belongs to the Anindilyakwa people, and is part of the Arnhem Land Aboriginal Reserve.
The island is approximately 50km east to west and 60km from north to south and has an area of 2687 square kilometres.
